Youth Ministry

ST. JUDE PARISH

JR HIGH YOUTH MINISTRY

WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN & WHY

WHAT: “VISIONS” Combines faith, fellowship, service and fun into an insightful evening involving the youth of St Jude Parish. It is an approach used in many parishes to combine Youth Ministry for all rising 6th to 8th Graders in our Parish Community.

WHEN: Visions meets on Wednesday evenings from 6 – 7:30pm and continues to meet throughout the summer to allow for more fun activities to be incorporated. We will not meet on scheduled school holidays such as Spring Break. Click here to  see/print the 2017-2018 calendar. Also included are optional activities such as retreats/lock ins/service projects etc. that may meet at other times and will be announced in advance.

WHO: VISIONS is for young parishioners in rising 6th through 8th grades, whether attending public, private, Catholic, or home school. It will serve as both the Parish Faith Formation and Youth Ministry components for our youth.

WHERE: With a few exceptions, VISIONS will meet in the Parish Life Center Youth Rooms (bottom level / old pre-school classrooms). Small groups may break up and meet around the building, or other areas. More active elements may move to the Gym on occasions.

WHY: With Confirmation age being lowered to 5th grade, it is more important than ever to have a strong youth ministry program and that our kids be actively involved in the life of the Church. This also allows them to continue their own personal faith formation journey, beyond the limited constraints of ‘preparing for Confirmation’. Those involved only in youth ministry desire to interact with all junior high youth of our parish, students in our parish education program want more fellowship and fun filled activities as well as service opportunities. Those students who have not yet been confirmed, and are attending regular youth group meetings, will be prepared to receive confirmation in the spring.

MORE INFORMATION: The Director of VISIONS is Irene Scoggins, St Jude Youth Minister. James Haug, Paulina Hernandez, and Lundy Ross are our wonderful volunteer Catechists who will be leading the evenings. Any other parents wanting to join us for various activities/Lessons/Projects are welcome at any time (you must be Virtus Trained). Please call the Church office at 870-2386, or cell phone 596-0053 to reach Irene with questions or suggestions.
